Say NO To Tanning Nasal Sprays

]What is a tanning nasal spray and how does it work?

Tanning nasal sprays contain a hormone called melanotan II, which stimulates hormones in your body and increases the production of melanin – a pigment in your skin cells. The more melanin produced, the darker your skin becomes; but it doesn’t last forever and will fade as soon as use of the tanning nasal spray stops.

Are tanning nasal sprays safe to use?

They might seem too good to be true, and they are. These dangerous and illegal tanning nasal sprays are often promoted as a way to ‘get a safe and natural tan’, but they’re anything but. Not only are they unregulated and untested, and therefore the full contents unknown, but they have the potential to cause all kinds of side effects – including gastrointestinal issues, facial flushing, discolouration of the nails, fatal destruction of muscle cells, fungal infections, abscesses and vomiting. Even worse, they can also cause the development of melanoma – a potentially life threatening type of skin cancer. Dr. Gabriella Birley has said:

“Nasal tanning sprays are not licensed in the UK which means that they have not undergone the stringent safety, quality and effectiveness testing that all medicines have to undergo before they can be licensed for use. Because they have not undergone this level of testing, there are serious concerns amongst medical professionals about the potentially serious side effects of the product meaning that it is, therefore, unsafe to use.”
